“Caspian Finds a Friend” published by Chronicle Books in 2019, is Merrilees’s first book. Her work was selected for the Society of Illustrators Original Art Show. She has been nominated for the 2020 best debut illustrator Klaus Flugge Prize.
Her images comprise traditional methods of drawing, printmaking, and painting that are finalized digitally. Using expressive line, subtle, and luscious bands of collaged color, she strives to create children and creatures, tiny to tall, gleaming with character.
