Julie Benbassat is an illustrator and avid sketcher based in New Jersey. Her work highlights her love of the natural world, fascination with the unknown, and deep appreciation for the mythical and the classical. Since graduating from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2019 Julie has created illustrations for the New York Times, The New Yorker, and NPR among others. She is the illustrator of The Book from Far Away (Astra) and There’s That Sun Again (Holiday House). Her forthcoming illustration projects include Tove Grows a Tree (Candlewick, October ’25), Louisine Lights a Legacy (Abrams, fall ’25), and Mungo on His Own (Katherine Tegen Books, winter ’26). When she’s not creating art, Julie can be found watching bad (but good) horror movies.
