Colin Bootman

Colin Bootman is a Trinidad-born, Bronx-raised fine artist and the illustrator of over two dozen books for children, including Almost to Freedom (written by Vaunda Micheaux Nelson), for which he received a Coretta Scott King Illustrator Honor and Dad, Jackie, and Me (written by Myron Uhlberg), winner of the Schneider Family Book Award, and Tiny Stitches (written by Gwendolyn Hooks) won the NAACP Image Award for outstanding literary work for children in 2017.

Colin is also the author-illustrator of Fish for the Grand Lady and The Steel Pan Man of Harlem, which Publishers Weekly said was “gorgeously moody, thoroughly cinematic, [and with] all the makings of a spellbinder” in its starred review. He continues to split his time between New York and St. Maarten.
