Bo Lu is an award-winning author-illustrator who moved from bustling Taipei to suburban Kansas as a little girl, knowing just three English words: “apple,” “banana,” and “so-so.” Before she could speak fluently, drawing became her way of making sense of her new world. Her debut picture book, Bao’s Doll, received an Ezra Jack Keats Illustrator Honor. Her forthcoming book, Ren’s Pencil (Abrams, 2026), explores the struggle to fit into a new place—and the power of imagination to help us see ourselves in new stories.
